Bye Bye Hair!

Here it is... the last hairstyle before the cut.  I know, it's boring, but you're not supposed to have styling products when you donate, plus - gotta show the length, right?

Pantene Beautiful Lengths - here's your hair!

Tommorow's the Day!

So with tomorrow being the big cut, I thought some more inspiration was due...

Katie in Dallas, Tx says "I am not my hair" and it will grow back! It's such an amazing feeling giving someone a gift like that.

Heather also donated her hair on Jan 28 for her birthday!  What a birthday present!

4 days left... Inspiration

Sorry "y'all" something went wrong with the previous post...  try again.

So in the days leading up to the cut, I think inspiration is appropiate. We've had a few women donate so far, so I'll be posting those pics. There are 2 of you who posted to the event page, I will be posting those pics to the blog in the next couple days, so if you want to include a write up, send it to 100hairstyles@gmail.com and I'll post it with your pics. Donna sent in her story, below. Look at that happy smile - must be the good feeling from doing such a great thing!

Your hair looks great!!

I know it's taken forever for me to get these to you, I apologize! Okay, so it's only been since Friday. That's forever for me! I've included 2 before shots, front and back, and a couple of after shots - just choose your faves to post!!

I'd also love for you to post the name of my fabulous stylist, Larissa Detwiler of Choppers Salon in Childress, Texas. She's coaxed and babied me these past years while I've grown my hair out, and she did a terrific job on my cut! My ponytails ended up being 9" long! Woo HOOO!!

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing in slow motion with the wind in your hair.

26 Days Left - Criss Cross Remixed

Day 30 was one of my favorite hairstyles, I thought it was sooo fun!  So I decided to do it with curls.  Turned out nice, don't you think?

Also - I got this comment from theblondgenius:

Love the flyers - but I must admit I'll miss this blog. I've been growing my hair out for Pantene for over 2 years now. I'm having it cut off on Feb. 12th, a nod to Valentine's Day. You've given me great ideas for different styles. It's been fun playing with it, but when people ask me how I can bear cutting it off after growing it out for so long, my answer is always, "It's not my hair - I've just been taking care of it for someone else."

So here's what I've been thinking.  Instead of just stopping the blog, maybe I'll update it once a week as I grow out my hair.  I was thinking of finding other people who also wanted to post their growing out hairstyles.  It would be encouragement, especially when we get to those hard to deal with phases... what do you think?

And I looove her answer.  Think about that ladies, you could give the gift of hair to a women with cancer.

Here's some flyers that I'm going to post around to try to get some more participation in the hair cutting event.  What do you think?

Hair-athon Styles51-60

In efforts to support Pantene's Beautiful Lengths Program, I've been doing a hair-athon - a marathon of hairstyles and asking for support.  To support, donate your hair, help me find people who have hair long enough to donate or donate to American Cancer Society.
I'm up to day 80 and I'm on a business trip and I'm not sure how much access I'll have to a computer.  So, I've decided to do a mini-recap of the styles so far.  And since I've moved the date of my hair donation from December 22 to February 20 to allow people time to sign up, I need ideas of interesting posts, so here's styles 51 - 60 for those who may not have seen them.

Day 51 - Roll like Dantz

Day 52

Day 53 - Buns on the Side

Day 54 - High Buns

Day 55 - Fishy Tail

Day 56 - Rope Headband

Day 57 - Mop on Top Monday

Day 58 - Stuck in a Mixer

Day 59 - My hubby's lazy

Day 60 - Taken by the Reins

Day 78 - The Other Katrina

So I was running out of hairstyles & another Katrina suggested "Side sweep where you pin up the side of your hair that you part toward, but not the other side."  Although I think I actually got it backwards... oh well!  Now it's a two day idea!
I also used some of my new Pantene products this morning, while it was wet the Full & Thick Mousse & the Smooth Serum & then the Classic Hairspray at the end.  I loved the volume I got, and the smooth serum really made my hair soft.  Would recommed them!

Thought for the Day - Why You Should Donate Your Hair

Today was a sick day for me, so no new hairsyle today.  In the mean time, think about this:

Do you think you can't possibly part with your hair? Short hair doesn't look good on you? Perhaps your significant other "doesn't like" short hair.

Think about this. How would you feel if you didn't have the choice? Consider a woman fighting cancer who has to deal with losing it all, I'm sure she would love to have that cute short hairstyle that you'll have when you're done donating.

And to your significant other, ask them how they think that woman feels going home to her family with no hair. Ask them to give it a chance for her.

Have you changed your mind? Click here to Pledge your Hair or Here to Support the Hair-athon in another way.

What's the point?

It's Thanksgiving, and I'm thankful for my health... and my hair.

So what is the point of doing 100 hairstyles in 100 days? Well, besides being a fun challenge for me, it's also an opportunity to promote a good cause. Every year, many women lose their hair due to their battle with cancer. I can imagine how dis-heartening this could be. I love my hair. It's one of the major ways I express my personal style. To be fighting for my life & then to lose my hair on top of it would be extremly emotional for me.

So here's what I'm doing about it. I am treating my hairstyle challenge as a marathon of sorts. And just like the marathons that people run, I'm asking for your support. Mainly, I'm hoping to get 1000 people to pledge to donate their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths on Februray 20, 2010. For more details see the post on "to donate your hair". To pledge your hair you can RSVP on Facebook, Evite or comment on this post.

If you can't donate you hair, you can still help. First off, you can send the link (100hairstyles.blogspot.com) to this blog to your friends & ask them to pass it on as well. I don't know that many people tha have hair long enough to donate, and I'm sure you don't either. But the more people who pass it on, the better chance of finding those people with the hair to donate.

You can tell others. By becoming a fan of 100 Hairstyles on Facebook, you incrase the visibility of the cause. Pantene Beautiful Lengths also has a fan page, so think about becoming a fan there as well. Please recommend the fan page to your facebook friends, again to reach higher visibility.

Lastly, the power of the dollar. Pantene Beautiful Lengths has paired with the American Cancer Society to provide to real hair wigs. I've set up a donation page for the blog, any donation amount would help.

Thanks for any type of support. Any ideas of ways to make the blog better, help the cause or anything else are welcome.

Thanks! Katrina

To Donate Your Hair

You've decide to donate your hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths? Great! Now what do you do?

1) Make sure it meets the requirements.  If not, please see the other ways you can help the marathon.

2) RSVP via Facebook, Evite or by commenting on the blog. When you RSVP, let me know your location. If you're in the South Jersey, Deleware, Pennsylvania tri-state area, we can donate together at In The Village (http://www.inthevillage.com/)  I'll keep you posted on how to make an appointment. If you're not in the area, make an appointment at your normal salon for February 20, 2010

3) Take care of your hair. Keep it conditioned, keep it trimmed, and don't bleach or dye it. For more information see Pantene's site.

4) On February 20, get your hair cut. Take a before picture, take a picture of geting the cut & take a picture of your cut new style & the ponytail. It'd be great to see these on the event page.

5) Send the ponytail to:
